did you know that you can feed your tank food while you are gone?!?!?!?!
I have been reacearching this now for a while.
if you are like me than you feed your fish 2 or 3 times a day.
I am goin to try this new way of feeding my fish.
I am going to use a dosingpump to feed my fish brine shrimp for 7 day with out me feeding them any any point and time.
everything else now adays is automated. well I am goin to try to do this and set the time for feeding every 8 hours or every 6 hours it will put out
5ML in the tank. now my tank right now is only 40 gallons. but when i go bigger it will be 45 to 50 ML for a 150.
the lines start in the "brine tank" were i raise my brine shrimp in a 10 gallon tank. than it gos in to the pump than to the tank. every 6 to 8 hours.
well see how it works out.

the real test should be 2 weeks. i went on a 10 day vacation and my endlers and bichir lasted 10 days with no food. lol good luck tho. i would really like to know if and how well this really does work because WHEN i go saltwater i want to make a system that can survive with only water changes.... that would be the ultimate tank system Very Happy

hell ya it would. Laughing
but your right i was thinking about that my self with the time.
I got the doser and timmer in a trade earlyer last week.
I have a 10 gallon tank with 3 air stones (long ones) and 3 180 gallon each air pumps.
I will take your chalange and do 2 weeks.
I have the timmer set at 5ML every 6 hours the brine tank is full I have an auto timer on the brine tank to feed the brine shrimp 1 time a day. the thing hold about enough food for 3 mouths or so.
today I have been home all day watching the timmer to see if it is working. so far so good. no problems that i can see. but i will keep everyone infoed in on it. cheers

sweet man that sounds legit. that system tied to a refugium would be legit. so it mixes the types of food. are you breeding the brine in that tank as well or do you buy brine?

I hatch the eggs in a 10 gallon tank with a 100 watt heater and use 3 air pumps and stones to keep them moving than i have a small tube in the tank to suck them in to the tank to send it to the return pump to the main tank.

this is how i set it up. the auto feeder has the food for the brine shrimp and feeds once a day.

i thought you meant something like a solid brine breeding tank. is it possible to have a stand alone brine breeding tank? i was thinking move that timed pump to the main tank. 1 less pump for the brine to get chopped or crushed up in. i would have the sump and main tank on a closed system and have a seperate brine breeding system that pumps water into the main tank directly. but basically the same concept.
is there anything that can breed fast enough to keep up with your feeding regiment? im trying out daphnia but injecting freshwater into a saltwater tank would mess with your ph levels and salinity. so i dunno. my idea is to have a tank that you never have to buy food for and only ever have to do water changes Very Happy

being able to set up a tank so it dos not need a water change is easy really. but it would be more like a 10% change every year. witch is still good. but ya i was goin to put it drectly in my main tank but i would need to drill another hole in my hood and when i tried that idea a lot of them whent to the overflow. so i put it in the sump part. but the brine shrimp i have have been growing for about 2 weeks. so there good size and i added some eggs befor i started.

I am learning a lot about the life of a brine shrimp. they live they eat they swim than get eatin by fish and so on. the tank is still full of babys and adults but i think that this would be good for up to a 75 gallon tank but if you are going to have a 150 like me Very Happy than you should go to a 15 gallon tank with 4 vary long air stones. and 2 auto pumps. at 5 mil every 6 hours is good for my 40 gallon tank and all my fish and corals.

another quick note
is that i think i will be able to tie it in to the return line to the tank so that it will carrie it faster insted of it driping in the return of the sump.

the only real thing i am thinging of is my shrimps. i hope there eating good

ok everyone it has been 16 days and i finally turned off the brine shrimp swsytm. all the fish are good but some of the corals look like there a little under feed. but there alive.

next tine i will make a nother tank about 5 to 10 gallons just for brine shrimp eggs. for the corals.

all the inverts look good. Snails are breeding, i think my coral shrimp have laid eggs. but everyone os happy and looking to get feed.

tell me what you think of my little expiriment.

seems like you need to up the amount of food injected or the frequency of injections then.

no what i think i need to make a auto feeder with eggs and inject about 100 every 12 hours and that should keep the brine shrimp babys for the corals. i will just keep playin around with it. but i think that is all i really need to do.
