ok this is goin to be a FOWLR tank. or a Fish Only With Live Rock.
the tank is for my own father. so he is goin to be going to saltwater as well as freshwater.
I set my fathers freshwater tank up about 3 mouths ago and he will soon be goin to a 55 gallon freshwater tank.
I will post pics if i can and keep you guys informed with this new build.

ya i will i will also be filming it as well. but it may take some time for the vids. My dad is disabled ad i take care of the matnince part as much as i can. and i have been tanking to him about getting a bigger tank and making a 20 gallon saltwater and he has whent with it so i will have a vid on setting up a freshwater 55 gallon tropical tank and show how to do the plumbing and lighing.
the saltwater i will show how to drill a tank and do pluming and make a internal overflow in the tank. how to aqua scape and etc.
for my dad it is worth it.
this is alsohis birthday christmass and fathersday gift lol

this is the basic idea in the setup in the 20gallon saltwatertank.
has a 5gallon wet dry filter, a 75 gallon powerfilter with builtin serfice skimmer 2 75watt heaters.
I will be using 3/4in pvc for the out and a 1/2 in going in. and i might use 2 outlets. and using just one good size return pump.

i would like to know why you prefer sumps over a canister. just better gas exchange or what?

well tecnicly its a modified 5 gallon tank made to be a wet dry filter. and yes it dos provide a great way of gas exchange. canisters are good for fresh water tanks. but i dont like to use them on saltwater. there is not enough gas exchange in canisters. i like canister filters dont get me wrong but i like to over filter everything. the wetdry is a awsome way of filtration and put O2 back in the water. it is a large bio filter and dos not need carbon or amonia chips to be replaced every mouth or so. with the set up you can put a carbon bag in if you want but i have found that the wet dry is one of the top 2 filters in the hobby so i use it the most.

i know they are good but internal pumps seem to be a bit spendy. and you gotta buy the tank for the sump and the dividers. just kinda spendy for me.

well the internal pump i want to get is only goin to cost 25 bucks from petsolutions
I have the 5 gallon tank so i dont need to buy it
there is alwas a 5 gallon tank on craigslist for really cheap.
the dividers are goin to be made of glass i have from pitchers and windows that broke. so it cost 0 but you can alwas find windows and pitcher frames that are not being used or is just in the way.
and the silicon is 5 bucks for 3 oz.
so all and all i have spent 35.87 on the hole thing as far as a sump.
I alwas say look for the daels. all of the stuff for the 20gallon tank that i have got has only got to 58buck so far but its 58 bucks not 300 bucks.

so i mean if you have a spare tank that is small and a broken window that has 3 pieces left that are good than you just need a glas cutter and aquarium syclicon and your good to go.
